<div style="text-align: justify;">L'héroïne de ce poème dramatique en cinq actes et en vers est la comtesse de Provence, Jeanne Ière de Naples (1326-1382). Mistral tente par son récit de réhabiliter ce personnage historique controversé en l'idéalisant. <br />Cette tragédie repose sur le conflit amoureux entre Jeanne et son mari André de Hongrie. Au delà du conflit sentimental, le véritable drame du récit est politique.
